Back to School Style: Your Fall 2026 Outfit Guide

There’s just something about September that makes us want a fresh start — and a fresh outfit.

Maybe you’re heading back to school, heading back to the classroom to teach, getting back into a regular work routine after summer, or maybe you haven’t been in school for years and September STILL makes you feel like you need a new wardrobe.

We get it.

And luckily, this season’s new arrivals are making the transition into fall pretty easy. From chocolate brown and classic denim to cozy knits, plaid and stripes, here are some of our favourite trends and outfit ideas for heading into Fall 2026.

Chocolate Brown Is the Colour of the Season

If there’s one colour we’re expecting to see everywhere this fall, it’s chocolate brown.

It’s warm, rich and surprisingly easy to wear. Pair chocolate brown with denim for an easy everyday look, mix it with oatmeal and cream for something softer, or add black accessories for a dressier feel.

We’re especially loving flowy chocolate brown pants paired with a simple fitted top or sweater. Add a great handbag and you have an outfit that works for the office, teaching, lunch dates or everyday running around.

Try it with: chocolate brown + cream + denim + gold accessories.

Back to Denim

Is there anything more “back to school” than a new pair of jeans?

This fall, denim is all about having options. Wide legs continue to be a favourite, while straight legs, flares and relaxed silhouettes give you plenty of ways to switch up your everyday outfits.

Pair your jeans with a classic plaid button-up for an easy weekend look, a sweater and loafers for work, or a simple tee layered under a jacket for those unpredictable September temperatures.

And don’t be afraid to play with proportions. A wider jean looks great with a more fitted top or cropped sweater, while straight-leg denim is perfect with oversized knits and relaxed button-ups.

Plaid Is Back — Obviously

Would it even be fall without plaid?

A classic plaid shirt is one of those pieces you’ll reach for over and over again. Wear it buttoned with jeans, leave it open over a tank or tee, or layer it under a sweater when the temperatures start dropping.

It gives you that effortless fall look without trying too hard — and it’s an easy way to start dressing for the season while the weather is still warm.

Sweaters Get a Little More Interesting

The sweaters coming in this season are anything but boring.

We’re seeing stripes, embroidery, cable knits, argyle, interesting sleeves and unexpected details that make a sweater feel like the whole outfit rather than just another layer.

The John + Jenn Rita Multi Colour Sweater practically looks like fall turned itself into a sweater, while embroidered florals and laser-cut sleeve details add something special to otherwise easy-to-wear knits.

And stripes? They’re sticking around.

From classic combinations to colourful knits, striped sweaters are one of the easiest pieces to pair with denim for an instant outfit.

Texture, Texture & More Texture

One of our favourite things about fall fashion is the return of texture.

Faux suede jackets and blazers, corduroy skirts, cable knits, ribbed pieces and cozy fleece instantly make an outfit feel more seasonal — even when you’re still dressing for warmer September afternoons.

A faux suede bomber layered over a simple tee and jeans is an easy way to get the fall look without pulling out your winter coat just yet.

The Teacher Outfit Formula

Teachers, we know the assignment: cute, comfortable and practical.

Start with a comfortable pant or jean, add a lightweight knit or easy blouse, and finish with a cardigan, blazer or jacket you can layer as needed.

Our knit pants, flowy trousers, lightweight sweaters and easy button-ups are perfect for creating outfits that look polished without sacrificing comfort.

Bonus points for pieces you can mix and match throughout the week.

Don't Forget the Accessories

Sometimes you don’t need an entirely new wardrobe — you just need the right finishing touch.

A new handbag can completely change an outfit, and this season we have lots of new bags and accessories arriving to help give your fall wardrobe a refresh.

Try adding a rich brown handbag to your denim looks, or use your accessories to bring in those deeper fall colours before you’re ready to fully commit to sweaters and jackets.

Your September Wardrobe Refresh Starts Here

Whether you’re going back to hit the books, teach the books, head back to the office, or you simply believe September deserves a new outfit, we have something for you.
